Message from the principal

Dear Parents,

My name is Deon du Plessis, and I am delighted to be a part of the International School Leiden family and serve as your principal. Our school community has dedicated, talented educators, committed to doing what is in the best interest of our students. We will continue to put students first at ISL and work diligently to ensure their success.

My professional background is rooted in education, leadership, and the financial sector for the past thirty years, I have worked in education as a leader, teacher, lecturer and counseling mentor in Primary, Secondary, Special needs and University level. I look forward to using these collective experiences as your principal.

In addition to my professional achievements, my greatest accomplishment is my family. I am a husband to my loving, supportive wife, Ester, who is also an educator. As a grandparent, of 2 beautiful granddaughters,I always want what is best for my grandchildren and will work tirelessly to ensure your children have the best possible experiences at ISL.

We are a new school and entering exciting times. I have always believed in the Latin term “in loco parentis” in place of a parent, refers to the legal responsibility of a person or organization to take some of the functions and responsibilities of a parent. We are committed to deliver the highest quality of education. I believe all children should receive an exemplary education in an environment that is safe and conducive to learning. Together we can help our children excel and grow individually.

I am honoured and humbled to serve as the first principal for ISL and look forward to serving the students, parents, community and staff. My door is always open to you, and I sincerely welcome your input and support. I am excited about all we will accomplish together for our children and look forward to celebrating our collective success this school year.

We foster our students’ love for learning, encourage them to try new and exciting things, and give them a solid foundation to build on

Our goal as a school is to equip our young people with the skills and mindset to thrive and then take on the world.
