Our school does not yet have a permanent address, as we will not start teaching until September 2022.

You are most welcome to contact us at: Please make sure you’ll mention that your request is an inquiry for the International School Leiden.

We are glad you are wanting to learn more about our International School. Our admissions procedure is geared towards getting to know your child and to make sure that there is a good match between our school’s educational provision and your child’s needs. There are various steps involved in the process, and we will be asking you many questions, including questions about languages, educational and family background. Click on the step-by-step plan below te read more about the admissions process.

Four steps to ISL Admission

Whether you’re crossing oceans to move to Leiden or are just a short drive away, choosing a school is an important decision. Our admissions process is simple, personal, and convenient. You can spend less time worrying about requirements and more time discovering how learning happens at ISL.

Step 1: Your inquiry

Scheduling a time to meet with one of our admission specialists is an exciting part of the application process. This is a time to let us know what is important to you. What makes your student special and gets them excited about school? We want to know! This is a great opportunity for you to get all of your questions about ISL, Leiden, and living in the Netherlands answered. These questions help us get to know you so we can personalize your experience in joining our community. Virtual meetings are scheduled on Mondays and Fridays. Please let us know when you have time available. Mrs. Conny -our admissions officer- will set up a meeting for you. We will use Microsoft Teams until we are ready for ‘live’ school-tours.

Step 2: Your pre-enrollment

Submitting the application form is the next step in the application process. We will start handing out forms from January ’22 onwards. We must receive all required documentation, as explained in steps two and three before we can process an application. Submission of an application does not guarantee admission. Students’ eligibility for enrollment will be reviewed based on documentation submitted by their parents/guardian.

Please pay close attention to your Application Lane as it will impact application deadlines, requirements and admission priority.

Determine your lane

Dependents of Dutch citizens returning to live in the Netherlands and eligible dependents of ISL faculty.

Expatriate or host country students coming from overseas who do not yet have a school in our region.

Expatriate or host country students transferring from a local or international school in the Netherlands. Applications in this lane have a fixed deadline of March 1 and is for August enrollment only.

Student support services

If your child has learning differences or special education needs in academics, speech and language, occupational therapy, behavior, social-emotional, or physical needs, please let us know before filling out an application. We will start communicating with you about your child’s particular needs and let you know what documentation to include in your child’s application.

Step 3: Proceed to application

After submitting your application, you need to submit supporting documents. Your application will not be processed until these documents are complete. To avoid delays to your application, please make sure to follow the format and naming conventions shown on the application form.

Step 4: Our review, decision and confirmation

All applicants from Early Years to Primary 5 go through an evaluation process that assesses skills in English language, reading, writing, and mathematics. An admission decision will only be made after your child completes these evaluations.

Early Years Program

Assessments may include a parent interview, student observation, and/or submission of a series of short, structured videos of the student engaged in an activity. The Admissions Office will let you know the format of your child’s assessment.

Primary 1 to 5

Applications will be reviewed on the basis of school records and references. Some applicants may be asked to take an admissions screening test or meet with the Admissions Review Board. Some applicants will be asked to take an admissions screening test. Under approved conditions, this test can be taken at the student’s current school or even in the comfort of your own home.

After completing these steps of the ISL Application you are all done! Upon completion, the Admissions Review Board will review your child’s application.
